In this webinar, I was chosen to talk about the Physics IGCSE course to many pre-IGCSE students as well as their parents. I was assigned to speak about the entire course — board papers they had to do, how to study, strategies for efficient learning, the difference between grade 7 or 8 physics and IGCSE physics, tips on how to tackle the papers, etc. I talked about what the papers demanded of the students and how to approach each question in the most efficient and effective ways possible. I provided them with tips and tricks on how to score many marks easily.
I created a slideshow where I compiled all of the information, tips, strategies and ideas and split the workload. Using this ppt, we explained, over a zoom call, to the parents and students on how to tackle physics IGCSE and to help them see whether the subject would be suitable for them and their children, in case they were planning on pursuing a career in Physics.
The task was rather challenging as we were required to provide parents and students with accurate information, so we had to be careful about what we said to them. The necessity to be precise and fit all the required information within a restricted time frame was also quite challenging as we had a lot to say but very little time to do so.
I actually was able to learn new communication skills as well as research skills through this experience. I was able to talk to the parents and students in the most convincing and useful way possible. As for research, I found different resources during my information gathering session, and I understood how to find reliable sources and which websites I shouldn’t trust.
My father was able to help me understand what students and parents would like to hear from me. He mentioned that providing students with strategies on how to study and tackle the MCQ section well, as that is where it is easy to score and lose marks, would help them a lot with their decision making.
After this experience, I am confident on how to conduct a webinar effectively.
